We recognise and accept each unique person and support their physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual wellbeing.  In this rewarding role you will work in a team environment where every day will be different.  As the Diversional Therapist, you will be responsible for development of meaningful and purposeful resident opportunities, staff education, quality documentation and resource development. You will have the support of the Engagement and Purposeful Living Manager and the Management team of the home.The Marian Home specialises exclusively in caring for older people with mental health issues and provides support to residents with high care and specialised needs.  The home is currently undergoing a full re-development and will become a state-of-the-art home.  The home has just commenced the Moove and Groove Program, has recently installed a Tovertafel / Magic table and has ample resources.This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about using their Diversional Therapy experience to truly make a difference. This position is based in North Parramatta and offered as permanent full-time, Monday to Friday as Level 2 Diversional Therapist. As a Diversional therapy, you will:Work directly with the Management team to maintain oversight of the leisure and lifestyle staff and overall leisure and lifestyle service provision within the home.Actively involve residents and / or key stakeholders in the development of leisure and lifestyle services and programmes for SCC North Parramatta.Facilitate and coordinate a dynamic, resident driven leisure program that supports, challenges and enhances the psychological, social, emotional, physical, spiritual and cultural wellbeing of our residents.Be responsible for the coordination of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised leisure and recreational programs for our residents and associated documentation.Provide leadership, mentorship and education to staff in relation to meeting the resident’s leisure, cultural and spiritual needs, wants and preferencesEnsure accreditation requirements are met and maintained.Ensure documentation and quality audits are undertaken and actioned as required.Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Southern Cross Care’s Risk Management and Quality Standards, processes and requirements as they relate to clinical practice and overall resident care. About you, you will have:An accepted university qualification including Bachelor of Health Science (Therapeutic Recreation), Bachelor of Health Science (Leisure and Health), Bachelor of Applied Science (Leisure and Health), Diploma in Diversional Therapy or an Associate Diploma in Applied Science (Diversional Therapy) or other qualification deemed acceptable.Demonstrated experience as a Diversional Therapist (minimum of 3-5 years).As this home caters for a specific clientele experience in working with people with a mental illness and / or a diagnosis of dementia is essential.Sensitivity to, and understanding of, the needs of older people particularly in relation to meaningful engagement and purposeful livingAdvanced verbal and written communication skillsAdvanced skills with computers and electronic record-keeping software/systemsAbility to set and maintain high standards in the provision of quality care and support servicesExperience in leading and supporting a teamAvailability to work Monday to Friday Please note this position is NOT suitable for a new graduate. About us:Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) is a leading not-for-profit high-quality aged care provider.
